Engagement is a medical term often referred to as “baby dropping.” This means that the infant’s head or buttocks have settled into the pelvis prior to labor.
If this is your first pregnancy, engagement will usually occur about two or three weeks prior to the onset of labor. If this is not your first pregnancy, the time of engagement is unpredictable. It may occur several weeks before delivery or it may not occur until labor begins.
You can usually tell if engagement has taken place because it is easier to breathe, the baby is lower, and you may experience increased pelvic pressure and more frequent urination.
