Importance of baseline concussion testing
Sports are risky, but there is a step you can take now that will greatly help should you or a loved one ever face a head injury in the future. If you participate in a sport with a higher chance for head injury such as football, hockey, wrestling, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball or volleyball, you should have a baseline test every two years starting after age 11. We also offer pediatric ImPACT™ testing for children ages 5 to 11.
Baseline testing measures the athlete's current mental function. In the event of a head injury, the baseline information provides a measurement of exactly where they were pre-injury and a clearer picture toward recovery.

Prevea’s baseline testing uses ImPACT™, a computerized program to help assess cognitive functions and recovery. ImPACT™ testing includes:
- Attention span
- Non-verbal problem solving
- Reaction time
- Response variability
- Sustained and selective attention time
- Working memory
Test results are instant, helping with precise decisions on the athlete's condition.
ImPACT™, or immediate post-concussion assessment and cognitive test, is designed for patients ages 12 to 59. While most commonly used with athletes, this test may provide value for any active individual. Ask your primary health care provider if taking a baseline ImPACT™ test is appropriate for you.
