When do most miscarriages occur?

Most miscarriages happen within the first 10 weeks pregnancy. This is why you may hear couples wait until after the first trimester to announce their pregnancy. After the first trimester, or 13 weeks pregnant, miscarriage rates lower each week, and couples feel more comfortable sharing their news.

In some cases, women do not know they suffered a miscarriage because it happens very early in the pregnancy. In those cases, miscarriages are often mistaken as menstrual periods that were a few days late and heavier than usual.

No matter when a miscarriage occurs in a pregnancy, it can have physical and emotional affects. If you think you may be miscarrying, alert your doctor immediately. They will be able to assess you and determine the best course of action. Also, your doctor may refer you to miscarriage resources to help you through the emotional affects.
