“
My philosophy of patient care is that we are a team, and we need to have a patient centered approach. As a physician, I educate my patients on the disease process and discuss the possible options for treatment. I often draw pictures of the digestive tract to help explain the issue and how we are going to treat it.
After an appointment, I want my patients to understand the "why" behind our approach to managing their disease and treatment. My patients should feel like they are heard, have had all their questions answered, and understand that we are going work together to find a solution.
I am originally from India and moved to Canada when I was 13. During the very first month, my mother had to have surgery due to suspicion of cancer. Fortunately, we found out after surgery it was a benign mass, but it was quite a stressful event in our lives. During this time, the empathetic care and professionalism exhibited by physicians and health care providers left a positive impression on me, and I made the decision to pursue medicine. I chose Gastroenterology because it is a field where I get to see a diverse group of diseases affecting multiple age groups. Additionally, I get to perform procedures that have life-saving impacts such as detecting and preventing esophageal and colon cancer. This field is where I see myself making the biggest difference and help my patients live their best life."
